2 〔同じく〕 too; also; as well; likewise; 〔同時に〕 at the same time; 〔その上〕 and; moreover; besides; further(more); what is more; 〔一方では〕 on the other hand; in turn; while.

●またある時は on another occasion.

●私もまた同感である. I feel the same, too. | I agree as well.

・酒は熱いのもうまいが冷たいのもまたいいもんだ. I like sake warm, too, but cold it's that much nicer.

・その娘もまた医学の道に進もうとしている. Their daughter is going in for medicine, too.

・社長も社長だが, 社員もまた変人揃いだ. The president is what he is, and there's quite a lineup of odd types among the staff as well.

・それならまたそれでも結構だ. That is all right in its own way.

・日本もまた不況からの脱出がうまく行っていない. Besides, Japan has not managed to find a way out of the recession.

・彼は語学者でありまた音楽家でもある. He is both [at once] a linguist and a musician.

・春はまた別れの季節でもある. At the same time, spring is the season for partings.

・私は金持ちではない, またなりたくもない. I am not rich, neither do I wish to be.

・うまく行くかもしれないが, また失敗の可能性も十分ある. Things might go well and again we might fail.

・立場を変えればまた別の考え方もできよう. Changing your stance might allow you think of things in another light.

・兄は下戸だが, 弟のほうはまたとんでもない酒好きだ. The elder brother can't take it, but the younger one on the other hand is an unbelievable drinker.

・姉も活発だが, 妹はまたそれに輪をかけたお転婆だ. The elder sister is pretty lively, while the younger one is even more full of beans.

3 〔驚きを表わして〕

●こりゃまたどうだ! でかいカボチャだね. Look at that, then! Isn't that a big pumpkin?

・よくまた無事で帰れましたね. Anyway, you did well to get back safely. | When all's said and done, it's good to have you back.

・私はまた君が自殺でもするんじゃないかと心配したよ. I was worried that you might even commit suicide.

・何だってまたあんな馬鹿なことをしちゃったんだろう. Why on earth did I go and do such a stupid thing?
